THE STORY
Early in 2024, I found myself standing at a crossroads. On paper, I had achieved the life I had always strived for:
A global C-suite role working with clients like Apple and Google.
An amazing, supportive wife and a great network of family and friends.
A vibrant social life in one of the world’s greatest cities.
Great vacations.
Good health, with approx 5x training sessions a week (Crossfit + running).
But that Instagram version of my life wasn’t telling the true story - behind that façade of success, the reality was this:
My role was taking a toll on me in ways that went well beyond the 8am calls with Singapore and the 10pm calls with Los Angeles.
I had a growing sense of isolation and vulnerability.
For the first time in years I was experiencing a loss of purpose and direction.
My workouts were increasingly feeling like a ‘sticking plaster’ solution and I was stuck in a rut physically as well as mentally, just going through the motions.
Drinking was shifting from an occasional social affair to a form of escapism.
The bottom line is that I’d bought into the societal dream that being a midlife leader would mean I’d completed the hard part of the game of life and that it would be all golden from here, only to find out the reality was very different.
And the more I looked around, the more I saw the same pattern playing out among my peers irrespective of nationality or culture - midlife male leaders who had lives that looked great when looked at through the superficial lens of status, salary or social media, but where in reality many were under intense pressure, had huge responsibilities (professional, personal and financial) and were feeling increasingly unsettled amidst this turbulence.
The irony is that realising I was not alone is what gave me my path forward - I knew I wanted to change, but even more than that, I knew I wanted to help and support others like me. I had found my mission. The Prime Movement was born.
